The comeback

We did this
once before.
Bigger this time.

Out & Active first existed from 2011 to 2014 — hundreds of trips, thousands of members. We stopped to do some other stuff. Now we're back.

Now we're rebuilding it for 2027 — same idea, new crew. Not a bar. Not an app. Not a chatbot. A trailhead. Founding members shape what this becomes.

01

Phones in the glovebox.

Trailhead at 7:14 a.m. Coffee in a thermos, someone's whippet in the back seat, no service for miles. By lunch nobody's checked Grindr and somebody's already crying at a view.

02

The campfire, not the feed.

Camp chairs in a circle. A dutch-oven cobbler nobody asked for. Three conversations going — exes, knees, and whether Mercury is in retrograde again.

03

Whoever you are, you're already in.

First-timers in fresh boots next to 14ers regulars. A trans kid from Tulsa, a husband-and-husband in their 60s from P-town, a nonbinary PM who hasn't slept outside since scout camp. Same summit, same ride home.

The world needs

More of
this.

  • Queers
  • IRL hangs
  • Nature
  • Campfire silence
  • Getting lost on purpose
  • Big laugh energy
  • Dirt under your nails
  • Showing up alone
  • Bear hugs at altitude
  • The long way home
The world needs

Less of
this.

  • Phones
  • Doomscrolling
  • Small talk at bars
  • Liking a post instead of calling
  • Let's get drinks that never happen
  • Being the only one
  • Inbox zero as a personality
  • Influencer trailheads
  • Answering emails on a ridge
  • Ghosting in real life
Three altitudes

Choose your
commitment.

A Tuesday-night ridge hike. A bunkhouse weekend in the Whites. A two-week walk to Everest Base Camp. Pick the one that fits the year you're having.

Local Adventures — Daybreak
Local Adventures

Bucket list adventures around the globe. Multi-day treks with permits, guides, lodging, and logistics handled. You show up, you walk, you come home with stories that don't fit in a caption.

Three ways to go

Solo, with friends,
or just your people.

Most folks roll up alone, get paired with a roommate, swap numbers by night two. Some sign up with their husband, their best friend, a crew of six from book club. Some rent the whole trip for a 40th birthday in Joshua Tree. All three work.

01

Come solo

You drive in not knowing a soul. You leave with a roommate who texts you memes for the next three years. We pair by sleep schedule and snore tolerance, not gender. Single room available if you'd rather have the door to yourself.

Designed for solo arrivals

02

Bring your crew

Two of you, four of you, the whole softball team. We'll bunk you together if you want a quiet corner, or split you across cabins so your friend group finally meets someone outside the friend group.

Group discounts at 4+

Book it private

Your 40th in Joshua Tree. Your chosen family at a lake house in the Adirondacks. Your engineering team in Sedona instead of a hotel ballroom. We plan it, you show up.

Safety, said plainly

In places where being out can be dangerous, we do the work.

Casablanca arrivals hall, 11 p.m. Our local lead, Younes, meets you with a sign that just says your first name. The van has no logo. The riad owner has hosted our groups since 2017 and knows what tea everyone takes. Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • Vetted local partners only. Hotels, guides, and drivers we've worked with for years who actively welcome our groups. No outing, no questions.
  • Discreet by default in public. No rainbow flags on the van, no group tees outside the hotel. Inside our spaces — dinners, lodges, base camps — you're fully yourself.
  • Pre-trip briefing. A 30-minute call covering local laws, PDA norms, what to do at customs, and how to handle questions. No surprises on the ground.
  • A trip leader who's been there. Every sensitive-region trip is run by a guide who's queer and has worked the destination repeatedly. They're your point of contact 24/7.
  • Out without ceremony. Trans and non-binary travelers get extra prep on documents, screening, and pronouns with local staff. We've done this hundreds of times.
